Writing Wednesday: Empty and Flat, Ready for Paint

Empty and Flat, Ready for Paint

Empty and flat
blank and white
one withered flower
killed by fright

Numbed by the screen
emptied by crowds
Now he will never
Put his "head in the clouds"

Blank and white
perfectly flat
ready for paint
to be painted on that

Ready for paint
to fill the blank space
to realize the dreams
that have never graced this place

Paint made of
creativity
to release the ideas
held in captivity

What has our society
our media
done to erase the knowlege
found only in encyclopedias

The knowlege found
in the notebook and pen
in the wild woods
in a true, heartfelt grin

For now your children's
imagination is gone
weakened by our culture
It's no longer strong

Could you get your
children to be caring?
To care about others
instead of just staring?

Their mental canvases
are ready for reds
for greens and deep blues
up in their heads

But hurry we must
before the canvas rots away
(melted by "school")
for this is the price we pay
